The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has appointed an interim National Working Committee (NWC) and released its timetable for the 2027 general elections following a recent leadership crisis.
The party announced the decision after its 103rd National Executive Committee meeting in Abuja, stating that a 13-member interim NWC will oversee its affairs and prepare for upcoming elections.
According to the PDP, the move became necessary after a ruling by the Supreme Court of Nigeria created a leadership vacuum within the party. The interim committee, recommended by the Board of Trustees, has been tasked with stabilising the party and coordinating its electoral activities.
The committee is chaired by Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, with several other members drawn from across the party’s structure. The PDP said the team has already been inaugurated and directed to begin work immediately.

Alongside the leadership changes, the party also unveiled a detailed schedule for its primaries. Sales of nomination and expression-of-interest forms are set to run from May 5 to May 13, while submission of completed forms will close on May 14.
Screening of aspirants is scheduled between May 15 and May 18, with appeals fixed for May 21. The final list of cleared candidates will be released on May 22.
Ward primaries for all positions will take place on May 27, followed by appeals on May 28. The party’s NEC is expected to approve candidates on May 29, while a special convention to ratify candidates will be held on May 30.
The PDP also released its fee structure for aspirants. Costs range from ₦2 million for House of Assembly hopefuls to ₦100 million for presidential aspirants, covering both expression of interest and nomination forms.

In a bid to encourage inclusion, the party announced concessions for certain groups. Women will only pay for expression of interest forms, while youths and persons living with disabilities will receive a 50 per cent discount on nomination fees.
The announcement marks a major step in the PDP’s efforts to reorganise after internal disputes, as it begins early preparations for the 2027 elections.
