The Federal Government has signed a partnership agreement with Airbus aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s aviation sector and supporting long-term aerospace development.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed during a visit by Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo to the company’s headquarters in Toulouse, France.
According to the government, the deal focuses on improving aviation infrastructure, developing skilled manpower, and expanding Nigeria’s role in the global aviation industry.
Keyamo described the agreement as a major step toward building a more sustainable and competitive aviation sector. He said the partnership aligns with the government’s broader plan to modernise the industry and create growth opportunities.

Airbus also highlighted Nigeria’s importance in Africa’s aviation future. The company’s regional president, Gabriel Semelas, said Nigeria’s large population and growing economy make it a key market for expansion.
Under the agreement, Airbus will provide technical support in areas such as training for pilots and engineers, maintenance services, and aviation market analysis. The partnership will also explore opportunities in Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) operations and sustainable aviation fuel development.
The deal comes at a time when demand for air travel across Africa is expected to rise significantly. Industry projections show the continent could require nearly 1,500 new aircraft by 2044, alongside thousands of trained aviation professionals.

Officials say the collaboration is expected to position Nigeria as a regional aviation hub, while creating jobs and boosting economic activity in the sector.
The agreement also builds on Airbus’ existing presence in Africa, as both sides look to deepen cooperation and support the continent’s growing aviation needs.
