The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting electric vehicles and clean transportation as part of efforts to modernise Nigeria’s transport sector, deepen industrialisation and advance the country’s green energy agenda.
The pledge was made on Thursday during the inaugural meeting of the Electric Vehicle Manufacturers Association of Nigeria held in Abuja.
According to reports gathered by RMNews360, government officials and industry stakeholders at the meeting stressed the importance of positioning Nigeria within the growing global electric mobility market.
Speaking at the event, the Director-General of the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council, Princess Zahrah Audu, congratulated the association for what she described as a bold step toward shaping the future of transportation and sustainable development in Nigeria.
Audu stated that the administration of President Bola Tinubu remains focused on building a modern, competitive and innovation-driven economy through the diversification and modernisation of Nigeria’s mobility ecosystem.
She noted that electric mobility was rapidly transforming economies across the world by creating new industries, generating employment opportunities, attracting investments and accelerating technological advancement.
According to Audu, the Tinubu administration recognises that global transportation systems are gradually shifting toward cleaner and smarter technologies, making it important for Nigeria to strategically position itself within the electric vehicle value chain.
She said the government sees electric mobility as an important component of its broader economic and environmental sustainability goals.
The PEBEC boss added that promoting electric vehicles would also help reduce carbon emissions, lower dependence on fossil fuels and improve energy efficiency within Nigeria’s transportation sector.
According to reports gathered by RMNews360, Audu also emphasised the need for stronger collaboration between government agencies, manufacturers, investors and technology innovators to build a sustainable electric vehicle industry in the country.
She noted that Nigeria possesses the market potential, human capital and entrepreneurial capacity needed to become a major player in Africa’s electric mobility transition.

Stakeholders at the meeting reportedly discussed opportunities for local manufacturing, charging infrastructure development, technology transfer and policy support aimed at accelerating the adoption of electric vehicles across Nigeria.
The event also highlighted the growing interest in clean energy transportation solutions amid rising concerns over climate change, urban pollution and fuel costs.
According to reports gathered by RMNews360, participants stressed the importance of creating a supportive regulatory environment capable of attracting both local and foreign investments into the sector.
Industry experts believe Nigeria’s transition toward electric mobility could stimulate industrial growth, strengthen local manufacturing and create thousands of jobs across the automotive and energy sectors.
The Federal Government has in recent years increased discussions around clean energy policies as part of broader efforts to diversify the economy and meet international climate commitments.
The inauguration of EVAMAN is expected to strengthen coordination among electric vehicle manufacturers and support the development of policies aimed at advancing sustainable transportation in Nigeria.
