
The Plateau State Government and the Namibia have opened discussions on a strategic partnership aimed at boosting tourism, mining, wildlife conservation, livestock development and intra-African trade.
The talks began on Thursday when Namibia’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, Walde Natangwe Ndevashiya, paid a visit to Governor Caleb Mutfwang at the New Government House, Rayfield, Jos.
According to reports gathered by RMNews360, the discussions focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation between Plateau State and Namibia in sectors considered critical to economic growth and regional integration.
Speaking during the meeting, Ndevashiya described Plateau State as a peaceful and hospitable destination with strong tourism potential due to its favourable climate and natural attractions.
The envoy said Namibia was seeking stronger partnerships with Nigerian states in key economic sectors, stressing that African countries must move beyond diplomatic rhetoric and pursue practical economic cooperation.
According to him, Africa possesses enormous resources and opportunities that can only be fully maximised through increased collaboration and intra-African trade.
Ndevashiya said Namibia was committed to building stronger trade and investment ties with sub-national governments across Africa, adding that Plateau State could play a leading role in advancing regional cooperation.
He noted that sectors such as tourism, mining and agriculture offered huge opportunities for mutually beneficial partnerships between Plateau State and Namibia.
The ambassador added that both parties could work together on wildlife conservation initiatives, livestock improvement programmes and tourism development strategies capable of creating jobs and attracting investment.
According to reports gathered by RMNews360, the envoy also emphasised the importance of African countries reducing dependence on foreign markets by strengthening trade within the continent.
He said practical cooperation among African nations would help unlock sustainable economic growth and improve development outcomes across the region.

Governor Mutfwang described the engagement as a significant step in the state government’s efforts to position Plateau as a major destination for tourism and investment.
The governor recalled a visit he made to Namibia in 2012, saying the experience influenced his administration’s interest in adopting best practices in tourism promotion and wildlife conservation.
Mutfwang stated that Plateau State possesses vast tourism assets, mineral resources and agricultural potential that could attract international partnerships and investments.
He added that Africa has the capacity to build strong economies through strategic partnerships and increased trade among African countries.
According to the governor, Plateau State is prepared to take advantage of collaborations that can stimulate economic development, create employment opportunities and improve livelihoods.
The meeting forms part of wider efforts by the Plateau State Government to attract foreign investment and strengthen economic ties with international partners across different sectors.
