Six kingmakers in Ikirun, Osun State, have expressed support for Governor Ademola Adeleke’s directive to the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, to forestall any breakdown of law and order in the town.
The kingmakers, Chief Diekola Toogun (Odofin), Chief Oluwole Atoyebi (Ojomu), Chief Bamidele Onifade (Elemon), Chief Raheem Okunlola (Jagun), Chief Sulaiman Olaore (Oluawo Onifa), and Chief Azeez Muritala (Obaale), made their position known in a statement issued on Thursday in Osogbo.
In the jointly signed statement, the traditional chiefs accused the Eesa of Ikirunland, Chief Abdulkareem Adetoyese, of taking actions capable of disrupting the peace of the community.
They alleged that Adetoyese had been misleading residents by claiming he possessed the authority to appoint a monarch for Ikirun, contrary to the position of the state government as contained in its gazetted White Paper.

According to the kingmakers, the government’s warning issued on May 14, 2026, urging residents to shun violence and maintain peace, was both timely and commendable.
The chiefs reaffirmed their support for the state government’s January 25, 2024, White Paper on the disputed Akinrun stool and said they remained committed to upholding the official position.
They also praised the Nigerian Police Force and other security agencies for acting swiftly to prevent unrest in the ancient town.
Responding to the allegations, Chief Adetoyese denied any involvement in efforts to destabilise Ikirun. He said, as head of the kingmakers, his primary responsibility is to ensure peace and insisted that the accusations against him were unfounded.

The dispute is linked to the controversy surrounding the Akinrun stool. In January 2024, the Osun State Government declared the stool vacant and directed all interested parties to await the outcome of an appeal currently before the court.
The development followed Governor Adeleke’s reversal of several traditional appointments made by his predecessor, Adegboyega Oyetola, in the final days of his administration.
