Accord Party has condemned the killing of Kolade Eluyera, the son of one of its women leaders in Irewole Local Government Area of Osun State, describing the incident as a politically motivated attack intended to intimidate party supporters ahead of the state governorship election.
In a statement issued on Monday, the party’s National Chairman, Maxwell Mgbuden, said Eluyera was killed on Friday near Onireke Mosque in Ikire.
Mgbuden described the murder as “gruesome, barbaric and politically motivated,” alleging that the young man was targeted to silence his mother, a prominent Accord Party woman leader in the area.
“It is outrageous that a young man was murdered to silence his mother, a popular Accord woman leader,” he said.
The party chairman said Eluyera’s only offence was exercising his constitutional right to freedom of association and political participation.
He extended condolences to the victim’s family and described his death as a sacrifice in what he called the broader struggle for a better Osun State.
Mgbuden urged security agencies to swiftly investigate the incident, arrest those responsible and prosecute both the perpetrators and any alleged sponsors.

According to him, the killing highlights the need for law enforcement agencies to remain vigilant during the election season to prevent further violence and maintain political stability.
He also alleged that thugs linked to opposition parties had been destroying public property, campaign materials and billboards across the state.
“Security agencies must sit up and discharge their statutory responsibilities seriously to prevent further violence and political destabilisation,” he said.

The Accord Party chairman said the party rejected what he described as the politics of bitterness and violence and vowed to resist anti-democratic forces seeking to destabilise the state.
Mgbuden also reaffirmed the party’s support for Ademola Adeleke and endorsed his bid for re-election in the August 15 governorship poll.
He said continuity in leadership would help sustain what he described as pro-people policies and development projects in Osun.
The party called on residents to reject violence, protect their votes and embrace issue-based politics as the state prepares for the election.
