Former Ondo State governor Olusegun Mimiko has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), formally ending his long-standing association with the party.
In a letter addressed to the PDP chairman in Ward 7, Ondo West Local Government Area, Mimiko said his resignation took effect from April 10, 2026.
He explained that persistent speculations about his membership status made it necessary for him to publicly clarify his position.
“Speculations and inquiries about my membership status have made it necessary for me to clarify my position,” he said, noting that he had been largely inactive in party affairs in recent times.
The former governor added that his distance from PDP activities influenced his decision to formally exit the party.

While confirming his departure, Mimiko did not disclose his next political steps, leaving questions about his future alignment ahead of the evolving political landscape.
He, however, emphasised that his resignation was made without bitterness or ill will towards members of the party.
Mimiko’s exit adds to a growing list of political realignments as key figures continue to reposition ahead of future elections, even as the PDP navigates internal shifts and broader competition within Nigeria’s political space.
