The All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared Eric Opah the winner of its governorship primary ahead of the 2027 election in Abia State.
The chairman of the APC Governorship Primary Election Committee and returning officer, Bartho Nyelong, announced the result at the party secretariat in Umuahia on Thursday night.
According to the results, Mr Opah polled 126,977 votes to defeat former deputy minister of science and technology, Henry Ikoh, who secured 5,905 votes.
Mr Nyelong said the votes were collated from all 17 local government areas after the exercise was conducted across the state’s 184 wards.
He stated that Mr Opah satisfied all constitutional and electoral requirements of the party and was therefore declared the APC governorship candidate for the 2027 election.

The returning officer described the primary as peaceful, transparent and reflective of internal party democracy, while also commending delegates and supporters for maintaining order during the process.
Mr Nyelong later presented Mr Opah with his Certificate of Return.
Reacting to the outcome, the Abia APC leadership congratulated the businessman on his emergence and expressed confidence that the party could unseat the Labour Party-led administration of Alex Otti in 2027.
In a statement signed by publicity secretary Uche Aguoru, the party described Mr Opah as a leader with the experience and vision needed to reposition the state.
