The Federal Government has partnered with Coursera to launch a Digital Training Academy (DTA) aimed at equipping 36,000 Nigerian youths with globally recognised digital certifications.
The initiative was announced by Tunji Alausa following engagements at the 2026 Education World Forum in London.
According to the minister, the programme will provide training in high-demand technology fields, including Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Cybersecurity, Cloud Computing and Software Engineering.
Mr Alausa said the Federal Government had fully funded 36,000 licences across Coursera and Pluralsight for the first year of the programme to eliminate financial barriers for participants.
“Through this programme, young Nigerians will receive world-class training in Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Cybersecurity, Cloud Computing, Software Engineering and other high-demand digital fields, while earning globally recognised certifications valued by employers across the world,” he said.

The minister added that the programme would be implemented in partnership with the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) and Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) to ensure nationwide access and industry-focused mentorship.
According to him, the initiative is part of the government’s broader strategy to strengthen technical, vocational and digital education while preparing Nigerian youths for opportunities in the global digital economy.
Mr Alausa noted that digital competency had become essential in today’s labour market and said the government was focused on building a workforce capable of competing globally.
The Digital Training Academy follows other recent government-led skills initiatives, including the Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) programme launched in 2025, which reportedly attracted more than 90,000 applications shortly after opening.
