Alex Otti has directed officials to begin the process of establishing a study centre of the National Open University of Nigeria in Aba, citing the city’s importance as a commercial hub.
The governor gave the directive while receiving NOUN Vice-Chancellor, Uduma Uduma, during a courtesy visit at his residence in Nvosi, Isiala Ngwa South LGA.
According to a statement by NOUN spokesperson Ambrose Gowong, the move followed a request by the university for policy direction on setting up a study centre in Aba.
Otti instructed the commissioner for tertiary education and the managing director of the Greater Aba Development Authority to identify a temporary site pending the construction of a permanent facility.

He noted that Aba’s economic significance makes it a suitable location for a NOUN study centre, adding that the expansion of open and distance learning, supported by digital tools like Google Meet and Zoom, has improved access to education.
