Senator Solomon Adeola has emerged as the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Ogun State ahead of the 2027 election after winning the party’s primary with 304,055 votes.

Adeola, who represents Ogun West Senatorial District, defeated fellow aspirant Abayomi Hunye, who scored zero votes in the exercise conducted across the state’s 20 local government areas.

The chairman of the APC Governorship Primary Election Committee in Ogun State, Wale Ohu, announced the result at the party secretariat in Abeokuta on Thursday after collation of results from the LGAs.

According to Ohu, the primary recorded 343,292 registered voters and 305,287 accredited voters.

“There were two contestants. Senator Solomon Adeola scored 304,055 votes while Mr Abayomi Hunye polled zero,” he said.

Speaking after his emergence, Adeola pledged to build on the achievements of Governor Dapo Abiodun and maintain unity within the party if elected governor in 2027.

The senator described the primary as peaceful and seamless, commending Governor Abiodun for overseeing what he called an unprecedented process in the state’s political history.

“I never imagined the exercise would be this peaceful. I thought it was usual primaries where people struggle and fight. God on our side,” Adeola said.

He added that Ogun State was witnessing what he described as its first peaceful transition arrangement in 15 years.

“By the grace of God, on May 29, 2027, I will be sitting side by side with you for a smooth transition of government,” he stated.

Adeola also thanked President Bola Tinubu for his support and mentorship throughout his political career, describing the president as a father figure and role model who had influenced his political growth over the last 24 years.

Governor Abiodun, meanwhile, said Adeola’s emergence reflected the confidence party members had in him across the state. He also described the peaceful conduct of the primaries as historic for Ogun State.

According to the governor, it was the first time in the state’s history that an outgoing governor openly supported a successor through a transparent and rancour-free process ahead of an election.
