Members of the All Progressives Congress in Abeokuta South Local Government Area of Ogun State on Monday staged a peaceful protest over the alleged refusal of party leaders to issue them membership cards, a development they say could prevent them from participating in the party’s 2027 primary elections.
The protesters, who gathered at the APC secretariat in Ijaye, Abeokuta, accused some party leaders of plotting to impose candidates ahead of the general elections. They argued that withholding membership cards was part of a broader effort to disenfranchise loyal members and deny them the right to vote during the primaries.
Carrying placards with messages such as “Give Us Our Membership Cards,” “We Don’t Want Imposition,” and “Let Us Vote for Our Candidates,” the aggrieved members called on the party leadership to ensure a transparent and inclusive process.
One of the protesters, Adesanya Akinbode, said members who had remained committed to the APC deserved full participation in the party’s internal democratic process.

“We have been loyal APC members from the beginning. We support President Bola Tinubu and Governor Dapo Abiodun. All we want is access to our membership cards so we can vote,” he said.
Another protester, Idowu Rodiat, warned against any attempt to impose candidates on members, insisting that party faithful should be allowed to choose their preferred candidates through a free and fair primary election.

Responding to the allegations, Ogun APC Publicity Secretary, Femi Nuberu, denied that any member was being denied access to their cards. He explained that registered members could print their membership cards online and that designated ward officials were available to assist with the process.
Nuberu said the complaints may have resulted from poor communication at the ward level rather than any deliberate attempt to exclude members from the primaries.
