Aston Villa have won the 2025/26 Europa League title after a dominant 3-0 victory over SC Freiburg in Wednesday’s final in Istanbul.
The win marks Villa’s first major European trophy since their historic European Cup triumph in 1982 and delivers manager Unai Emery a record-extending fifth Europa League title.
Played at Tupras Stadium, the final saw Villa control proceedings from start to finish as they overwhelmed the German side with sharp attacking football and disciplined defending.
Youri Tielemans opened the scoring just before halftime, firing home a volley after being set up by Morgan Rogers.
Villa doubled their advantage in the second half through Emiliano Buendía, who finished brilliantly following an assist from captain John McGinn.

Rogers later added the third goal in the 58th minute after receiving a pass from Buendía, sealing a comprehensive victory for the Premier League side.
The triumph represents Aston Villa’s first European silverware in 44 years, recalling the club’s famous 1982 European Cup final victory over FC Bayern Munich.
The final also marked another European milestone for Jadon Sancho, who reached his third consecutive European final. The winger finished runner-up with Borussia Dortmund in the 2024 Champions League final before winning the Conference League with Chelsea FC in 2025.
