Turkish unmanned aerial vehicle manufacturer DASAL Aviation Technologies has signed a major defence supply and technology cooperation agreement with Nigerian company NIGUS International Investment Limited to provide combat and cargo drones to Nigeria and support local assembly.

The agreement was signed during the SAHA 2026 international defence, aviation and space industry fair at the Istanbul Expo Centre, one of Europe’s largest defence industry events.

Under the deal, DASAL will supply 100,000 MIKON kamikaze drones, 200 FALCON R556 unmanned aerial vehicles, and 100 PUHU cargo drone systems for approved official end users.

Beyond the supply of drones, both companies also signed a local assembly and conditional technology cooperation agreement aimed at establishing a defence manufacturing and maintenance base in Nigeria.

According to the companies, NIGUS will coordinate the strategic partnership while DASAL sets up local assembly, system integration, and maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facilities in Nigeria. The infrastructure is expected to help the Nigerian Armed Forces maintain equipment locally and improve operational readiness.

DASAL General Manager Kutay Büyüköztürk said the partnership would strengthen Nigeria’s tactical capabilities and expand the company’s footprint in Africa.

NIGUS Chief Executive Officer Malik Ado-Ibrahim described the agreement as a significant shift in Nigeria’s defence procurement strategy, noting that the focus on local assembly and technology transfer would help build a high-tech industrial base in the country.

The deal comes amid growing military ties between Turkey and Nigeria.

In January, both countries signed nine bilateral agreements, including a defence cooperation pact, during President Bola Tinubu’s visit to Turkey.

Last month, Defence Minister Christopher Musa announced that Turkey would train 200 Nigerian special forces personnel as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s defence capabilities.
