The Lagos State Government has announced plans to temporarily close the outbound carriageway of Eko Bridge leading to Lagos Island from May 12 to allow for emergency safety investigations and repair works.

The closure will affect the section of the bridge between Apongbon and Ijora Olopa, according to the state’s Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi.

Osiyemi advised motorists travelling to Lagos Island to use the Third Mainland Bridge as an alternative route during the repair period. He added that the inward carriageway into Lagos Island would remain open to traffic.

To minimise disruption, the commissioner said traffic management and security officials would be stationed along diversion routes to maintain order and ensure the smooth movement of vehicles.
