The Federal Road Safety Corps has launched a large-scale traffic decongestion exercise in Ondo Town, Ondo State, targeting major congestion points and removing road obstructions to improve traffic flow and safety.
The initiative, tagged Operation Orange Impact, was inaugurated by the Ondo Town unit commander, Joseph Ajayi, who said the exercise is part of the corps’ community-focused strategy to enhance road safety through proactive interventions.
According to him, the operation focuses on key traffic hotspots, including Sabo, Ife Garage Roundabout, and Lipakala junction, areas identified through FRSC data as persistent congestion points.
FRSC operatives have begun early morning deployments to manage traffic and ensure smoother vehicular movement, while also evacuating abandoned and accident-damaged vehicles obstructing major roads.
Ajayi said the exercise is aimed at preventing accidents, especially secondary crashes caused by stalled vehicles and other hazards on the road, particularly during poor visibility conditions.

The corps is also carrying out temporary repairs on damaged sections of roads in collaboration with local stakeholders to reduce the risk of pothole-related accidents pending full rehabilitation by relevant authorities.
He said the command plans to institutionalise the intervention as a regular exercise and expand collaboration with the Ondo State Ministry of Works and local government authorities.

Road users were urged to cooperate with traffic officials and avoid abandoning vehicles on highways, while members of the public were encouraged to report obstructions through FRSC offices or its toll-free emergency line.
Residents and transport operators have welcomed the initiative, noting improved movement and reduced gridlock in affected areas.
