The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has advised motorists travelling along the Abuja-Kaduna Highway to remain patient and strictly comply with traffic regulations amid heavy congestion caused by increased Eid el Kabir travel and ongoing road construction activities.
The advisory was issued in a statement posted on the corps’ official X handle on Sunday as thousands of travellers continue to move across major highways ahead of the festive celebrations.
According to the FRSC, the most severely affected section of the highway is the Nasarawa-Azara axis between Katari and Jere towns, where traffic movement has slowed considerably.
The corps attributed the worsening gridlock to increased vehicular movement combined with reckless driving practices such as dangerous overtaking and lane indiscipline.
“The congestion has been worsened by motorists engaging in unsafe overtaking and disregard for lane discipline,” the agency stated.
The FRSC stressed that cooperation from motorists remains critical to reducing travel delays and preventing accidents during the peak travel period.
To ease pressure on the busy Abuja-Kaduna corridor, the corps recommended an alternative route for travellers moving between both cities.
According to the advisory, motorists travelling from Kaduna to Abuja were advised to use the Kaduna–Kachia–Maraban Kubacha–Jere–Bwari–Dutse Abuja route, and vice versa.
The agency said the diversion is expected to reduce congestion on the heavily affected portions of the highway and improve traffic flow during the holiday rush.
The FRSC also warned motorists against reckless behaviours capable of worsening traffic conditions and increasing crash risks.
Road users were urged to maintain lane discipline, avoid driving against traffic, obey traffic officials, and drive responsibly at all times.
The corps reiterated that patience and compliance with road safety regulations are essential to ensuring safer movement during the festive season.
In a related development, the FRSC announced the commencement of nationwide special patrol operations ahead of the 2026 Eid el Kabir celebrations.
The agency disclosed that more than 30,000 personnel have been deployed across the country as part of efforts to enhance road safety, manage traffic, and respond quickly to emergencies during the holiday period.
The special patrol operations are expected to focus on major highways, black spots, and high-traffic routes nationwide.
The FRSC assured Nigerians that it remains committed to safer road travel and reduced accident rates throughout the festive period.
