Lagos State lawmaker, Desmond Elliot, has rejected the outcome of the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election for Surulere Constituency I, saying he will challenge the process through the party’s internal appeal mechanism.
Elliot lost the party’s ticket to Barakat Odunuga-Bakare, who reportedly secured 11,385 votes in the primary held on Wednesday, while the incumbent lawmaker polled 270 votes.
Reacting to the result, Elliot said he was dissatisfied with the conduct of the exercise and insisted that the process did not reflect a fair contest.
He alleged that violence and intimidation marred the election, claiming that some of his supporters were prevented from accessing the voting venue and others were allegedly assaulted.
According to him, the atmosphere during the primary raised concerns about transparency and proper accreditation of delegates.

Elliot also questioned the disqualification of some of his supporters, who were reportedly accused of presenting fake membership cards, arguing that such claims should have been verified through proper screening procedures.

He maintained that he never withdrew from the race voluntarily, stating that he only instructed his agents and supporters to step back due to alleged irregularities.
Despite his grievances, Elliot reaffirmed his commitment to the APC and said he would pursue redress through the party’s established appeal process, stressing that he remains focused on representing his constituency.
