Aisha ‘Binani’ Dahiru, the 2023 governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa, has defected to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), marking her second party switch within a year.
The move comes just nine months after she exited the APC for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), underscoring the shifting political alignments ahead of future elections.
Binani was formally received into the NDC at a ceremony where Seriake Dickson, the party’s national leader, welcomed her and announced that she would head the party’s structure in Adamawa State pending the completion of internal processes.
Speaking at the event, the former senator said her decision followed a careful assessment of the NDC’s constitution, which she described as focused on structured and policy-driven governance. She added that political decisions are often shaped by evolving realities, noting that her latest move was influenced by consultations with her supporters.

According to Binani, many of her loyalists had already begun aligning with the NDC before her formal defection, contributing to what she described as a growing base for the party in Adamawa. She emphasised the role of grassroots support in political success, saying no individual can thrive in isolation.
She also called for fairness, transparency, and stronger internal democracy within the party, while expressing appreciation to the NDC leadership for what she described as a warm reception.

Welcoming her, Dickson said the party remains open to new entrants and is focused on expanding its political reach. He added that Binani’s emergence would strengthen the party’s presence in Adamawa and position it for future contests.
Her latest move highlights the fluid nature of Nigeria’s political landscape, where alliances and party loyalties continue to shift as key actors reposition ahead of upcoming electoral cycles.
