Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has said the 2027 general election will be his final attempt at the presidency, ending years of repeated bids for Nigeria’s top office.
He made the statement on Wednesday during an interview on Arise TV, where he reflected on his long-standing political ambition and electoral history.
Atiku, a prominent figure in Nigeria’s Fourth Republic politics, has contested the presidency multiple times since 1993 under different political platforms. He ran in 2007, 2011, 2015, 2019, and 2023, but has yet to secure the office.
In the interview, the former Vice-President said the 2027 election would mark his final appearance on the presidential ballot, signalling what could be the closing chapter of one of Nigeria’s longest-running presidential pursuits.
He has consistently remained a key opposition candidate across successive election cycles, often positioning himself as a reform-focused alternative in national politics.
