The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party aligned with Nyesom Wike has dismissed claims of a political alliance with the ruling All Progressives Congress, insisting it remains focused on defeating the APC in the 2027 general elections.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Mohammed, said suggestions that the PDP was collaborating with the APC were “mischievous” and aimed at misleading party members and the public.
According to him, the PDP is contesting the elections independently and is confident of reclaiming power at the federal level. He noted that the party has begun screening aspirants for various positions and said the nomination process has progressed smoothly, with governorship hopefuls from several states already submitting their forms.
Mohammed said the enthusiasm shown by aspirants and party supporters reflects growing confidence in the PDP’s prospects ahead of the 2027 polls.

In a related development, a pro-PDP group known as the PDP Survival Movement insisted that no court ruling had invalidated the leadership structure headed by Abdulrahman Mohammed and Samuel Anyanwu.
Speaking in Abuja, the group’s president, Okoh Bartholomew, argued that the Supreme Court of Nigeria judgment widely cited in recent disputes did not concern Anyanwu and therefore had no legal effect on his position.

Bartholomew also questioned the legality of the 13-member caretaker committee headed by Tanimu Turaki, asking where the so-called Interim National Working Committee derives its authority under the party’s constitution.
He maintained that the Abdulrahman-Anyanwu leadership remains the only court-recognised structure and urged party members to ignore what he described as politically motivated attempts to create confusion within the opposition party.
The latest exchange highlights the deepening leadership battle within the PDP as rival factions position themselves ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
