MADRID, June 14 — Real Madrid have reportedly reached an agreement with Chelsea to sign Spanish defender Marc Cucurella in a deal worth €55 million ($63 million), with the transfer expected to be completed after the FIFA World Cup.

The 27-year-old left-back is set to become the latest addition to Madrid’s squad as the club looks to strengthen ahead of the new season following a disappointing campaign that ended without a major trophy.

Cucurella joined Chelsea in 2022 from Brighton & Hove Albion after progressing through the academy of FC Barcelona and later establishing himself at Getafe CF.

The move comes amid significant changes at Real Madrid, where club president Florentino Pérez recently appointed José Mourinho as head coach following his re-election earlier this month.

Madrid Continue Squad Rebuild

Real Madrid have been active in the transfer market as they seek to return to the top of European football. The Spanish giants are also expected to sign Ibrahima Konaté when his contract with Liverpool FC expires and have been linked with moves for Bernardo Silva and Denzel Dumfries of Inter Milan.

Cucurella arrives with considerable experience at both club and international level and is viewed as a key reinforcement for Madrid’s defensive unit.

Chelsea Exit Looms

The defender leaves Chelsea after a mixed spell at Stamford Bridge. The London club endured a difficult 2025/26 campaign, finishing 10th in the Premier League.

Cucurella was among the players who publicly questioned Chelsea’s decision to dismiss former manager Enzo Maresca in January.

Despite the club’s domestic struggles, Cucurella helped Chelsea win the FIFA Club World Cup and the UEFA Conference League during his time in west London.

The Spaniard had two years remaining on his Chelsea contract but is now expected to continue his career in La Liga with Real Madrid once the World Cup concludes.
