The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has reactivated Operation Sweep FCT, a joint security task force aimed at intensifying efforts to rid Abuja and surrounding communities of criminal elements.
FCT Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Sanusi, announced the renewed operation on Friday in Abuja, saying the move was prompted by rising security concerns, including kidnapping, armed robbery and banditry across the territory.
According to Sanusi, the operation is not targeted at any ethnic, religious or cultural group but is focused solely on tackling criminality.
“Crime has no tribe, no religion and no culture. Our mandate is to face criminals and criminality at whatever level,” he said.
The task force comprises personnel from the Nigeria Police Force, the military, the State Security Service, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, the Federal Road Safety Corps, the Nigeria Immigration Service, the Nigeria Customs Service, and the FCT Directorate of Road Transport Services.

Sanusi said the coordinated effort demonstrates strong inter-agency collaboration to restore peace and improve security within the nation’s capital.
“We will face the dreaded monsters head-on and bring about peace, tranquillity and a higher level of security within and around the FCT,” he said.
He assured residents that operatives would conduct themselves professionally and avoid harassing law-abiding citizens during the exercise.
The police commissioner also appealed to residents, the media and international partners to provide credible intelligence that could help security agencies dismantle criminal networks operating in the territory.
“This operation will remain for as long as the FCT remains. There is no part of the FCT isolated from our operation,” he added.
