The Osun State governorship campaign of the All Progressives Congress has moved to separate its candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, from the state’s controversial salary reduction policy implemented years ago.
The campaign said Oyebamiji was not part of the administration when the decision to reduce workers’ salaries was first introduced in 2015 under former Governor Rauf Aregbesola.
According to the clarification, Oyebamiji only joined the state cabinet in 2017 as finance commissioner, well after the policy had already taken effect. The group added that by the time a new administration took over under Gboyega Oyetola, steps were taken to restore full salary payments.
It stressed that the candidate’s tenure in office was focused on managing state finances under a different government and should not be linked to earlier policy decisions.

The APC campaign further argued that Oyebamiji’s record in government reflects financial management experience rather than involvement in the formulation of the salary structure.
It also outlined his campaign promises, which include strengthening worker welfare, reintroducing loan schemes for civil servants, and expanding housing and social support programmes if elected governor.
The statement comes amid ongoing political debate in Osun over the legacy of past administrations and their handling of public sector wages.
