The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has launched a strong criticism of the federal government, describing it as “the most shameless government in Nigeria’s history” amid allegations of political interference in opposition parties.

Speaking in a statement on Tuesday, ADC spokesperson Bolaji Abdullahi accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of engineering factional crises within opposition parties, including the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP).

According to the ADC, tensions within the PRP reportedly escalated shortly after its leadership, led by national chairman Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, visited ADC national chairman David Mark. The party claimed that shortly after the visit, internal divisions emerged within the PRP, leading to the formation of a rival faction challenging its leadership.

Abdullahi alleged that the developments reflect a broader pattern of political interference aimed at destabilising opposition structures.

“This has to be the most shameless government in Nigeria’s history,” he said, claiming that speculation around potential political realignments was enough to trigger internal unrest within opposition parties.

He further argued that Nigeria’s democratic space is shrinking under the APC-led administration, warning that continued interference in opposition politics could weaken democratic institutions.

“The world can see what is happening, and more importantly, where this path leads,” he added.

The ADC spokesperson also accused the ruling party of pursuing a political strategy built on weakening alternative platforms, describing it as “self-destructive” and a threat to national stability.

However, the APC and the federal government have consistently denied allegations of involvement in internal opposition disputes, maintaining that political parties are responsible for managing their internal affairs.
