Seyi Makinde has called on his political loyalists, associates and members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State to remain united and resist the temptation to let personal ambitions weaken the coalition that has sustained his administration since 2019.

The governor appealed a dinner with political stakeholders and appointees held on Friday at his Kolapo Ishola residence in Ibadan, according to a statement issued on Saturday by his Special Adviser on Media, Dr. Suleimon Olanrewaju.

Makinde said unity within his political camp is critical to ensuring that the developmental strides recorded in Oyo State continue beyond the end of his tenure and into the next administration after the 2027 general elections.

According to him, only a small number of individuals will eventually occupy elective offices, but they will depend on the broader support of millions of residents across the state to succeed.

“Apart from the positions at the local government levels, the elective positions for the 2027 general elections are 51,” he said. “So these posts can only be taken by a few people who would need the generality of the people to succeed.”

The governor urged party leaders, aspirants and stakeholders to place collective progress above personal aspirations, stressing that the responsibility of choosing credible successors rests on the shoulders of his political team.

He said the people of Oyo State expect his administration to identify capable leaders who can sustain the policies and reforms introduced over the last seven years.

“It is only through continued unity and the success of the team that the people of the state can continue to reap the benefits of the administration,” Makinde said.

“So, I just want to appeal that this team must be together, and it must continue the good work we have started for the benefit of the people of Oyo State.”

Among those present at the gathering were Deputy Governor Bayo Lawal, Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly Debo Ogundoyin, members of the state executive council, and House of Representatives member Adedeji Olajide, alongside political appointees and party leaders.
