Senator Victor Umeh has weighed in on the protracted leadership tussle within the Labour Party (LP), urging Julius Abure to fully accept and comply with the Supreme Court’s recent ruling that settled the party’s internal leadership dispute. According to Umeh, the apex court’s decision is not just final but binding on all parties, and any efforts to question or circumvent it would only deepen divisions within the party.

Umeh, a prominent figure in the LP and a former National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), stressed that for the party to function effectively and maintain public confidence, it must uphold the rule of law and demonstrate internal discipline. He noted that the court had recognized the legitimacy of the current leadership structure and tasked all party members with respecting the verdict.

He called on Abure and his supporters to embrace peace and contribute constructively to party development, especially with the 2027 general elections on the horizon. Umeh also expressed concern that persistent infighting could jeopardize the LP’s chances of emerging as a strong opposition force capable of representing the interests of the Nigerian masses.

The LP crisis, which has drawn attention from political observers nationwide, centers around allegations of procedural irregularities, factional control, and power struggles within the party hierarchy.
