Former England captain David Beckham has become Britain’s first billionaire sportsman after his combined family wealth passed the £1 billion mark in the latest Sunday Times Rich List.
The valuation includes the wealth of Beckham and his wife, fashion designer and former Spice Girls member Victoria Beckham, whose total fortune is now estimated at £1.185 billion.
This places the couple among the richest figures in British sport, with only former Formula One chief Bernie Ecclestone and his family ranked higher in the sporting wealth category.
Reports say Beckham’s rise in wealth has been driven by long-term commercial partnerships with global brands such as Adidas and Hugo Boss, as well as his ownership stake in Inter Miami CF, the football club he co-founded in the United States.
The club is now valued at over one billion dollars, significantly boosting his financial profile in recent years.
While Beckham’s fortune has increased, the same report noted a decline in the wealth of several other major sports business figures.
Jim Ratcliffe, co-owner of Manchester United and head of chemical company INEOS, saw his fortune fall sharply due to financial pressures affecting his business empire.
The report stated that INEOS has been impacted by rising debt levels, falling revenues and heavy losses, which contributed to a multi-billion pound drop in its overall wealth.

The sports rich list also highlighted several other major names in global sport.
Boxing promoters Barry Hearn and Eddie Hearn were listed with combined earnings exceeding one billion pounds through their Matchroom Sport empire.
Heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua, football star Harry Kane, tennis champion Andy Murray, golfer Rory McIlroy and Formula One driver Lewis Hamilton all featured among the UK’s top sporting earners, reflecting the wide commercial value of modern sports personalities.
Lewis Hamilton was ranked among the top five highest earners, while Rory McIlroy and Kane also maintained strong positions in the list.
The development marks another milestone in Beckham’s post-playing career, which has seen him transform from football icon into global businessman and sports franchise owner.
His achievement also highlights the growing financial power of modern sports, where commercial deals, media influence and club ownership now play as big a role as performance on the field.
