Former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has reaffirmed his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in Oyo State, saying his ambition is driven by a desire to serve the people.
Speaking to supporters in Ibadan after arriving at Alakia Airport, Adelabu said his recent resignation from ministerial duties was solely to focus on securing the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket ahead of the election.
“This is not my first time taking such a risk because it is what I believe in,” he said, expressing confidence in his chances of clinching the party’s nomination and winning the general election.
Adelabu’s declaration marks another attempt at the Oyo governorship after previous unsuccessful bids. He ran as the APC candidate in 2019 and later contested the 2023 election under the Accord Party.
Now back in the APC, he says his long-term preparation and political experience have positioned him for a stronger outing in 2027.
He also framed his ambition in moral and personal terms, stating that his intentions are rooted in service and guided by faith.

Outlining his vision, Adelabu promised to prioritise infrastructure development, economic growth, and improved security across the state.
He said his administration, if elected, would focus on restoring Oyo’s reputation as a leading state while strengthening fiscal management and social infrastructure.

“We’re going to hit the ground running,” he added, noting that his plans have been in development for over a decade.
Adelabu’s early declaration signals the gradual buildup to the 2027 elections, with political actors beginning to position themselves within party structures.
His return to the APC and renewed ambition could reshape the party’s internal dynamics in Oyo State, where the race for the governorship ticket is expected to be competitive.
