The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has postponed its screening exercise for presidential and governorship aspirants to Monday.

The exercise was originally scheduled to take place over the weekend, but the party announced on Saturday that it had adjusted the timetable.

The decision was disclosed in a statement issued in Abuja by Bolaji Abdullahi.

According to the party, the change affects all aspirants seeking to contest for the presidency and governorship positions on its platform ahead of the next general elections.

The ADC also announced a separate adjustment for candidates contesting seats in the National Assembly.

It said the screening of senatorial and House of Representatives aspirants would now be conducted in Abuja because of security concerns in some parts of northern Nigeria.

Party officials explained that the change was necessary to ensure that all aspirants could complete the screening process in a safe and orderly environment.

The ADC assured candidates that each affected aspirant would be contacted directly with new dates, times and other important information relating to the revised arrangements.

The ADC said it was committed to maintaining a transparent and well-organised screening exercise despite the unexpected changes.

Screening exercises are a key part of the nomination process for political parties in Nigeria. During the exercise, aspirants are assessed and cleared to contest under the party’s platform.

The ADC expressed regret over any inconvenience the postponement might cause to aspirants and their supporters.

The announcement comes as political parties across Nigeria continue preparations for forthcoming elections by conducting screenings, primaries and other internal processes to select their candidates.

By shifting the exercise to Monday and moving National Assembly screenings to Abuja, the ADC says it is taking practical steps to ensure the process is completed smoothly and without disruption.
