President Donald Trump abruptly ended a live interview with NBC journalist Kristen Welker on Sunday after a heated exchange over his claims that recent elections were rigged.
The confrontation occurred during Trump’s appearance on NBC’s Meet the Press in Wisconsin, where the president was questioned about allegations of election fraud in California’s recent primaries and the 2020 U.S. presidential election.
During the interview, Trump repeated his longstanding assertion that elections had been manipulated, claiming similar issues were occurring again.
“The election was rigged. It was a dirty election. And it’s happening again right now in California. They’re cheating on the election,” Trump said.
When Welker repeatedly asked him to provide evidence to support the allegations, Trump responded that his conclusions were based on information he had heard from others.
“All I have to do is look. All I have to do is listen, and I listen to people, and let’s see what happens,” he said.

The discussion quickly escalated as Trump accused the media and NBC of bias.
“They’re crooked just like you’re crooked; your press is crooked. And Meet the Press is crooked,” Trump said. “You’re a one-sided crooked network. Your elections are crooked, and you’re crooked, and Meet the Press is crooked. And so are ABC, and CBS, and CNN.”
Welker continued to press the president for evidence supporting his claims, prompting a sharper response from Trump.
“You’re either crooked, or you’re stupid. Let’s call it quits. Because I’ve had enough. Thank you, darling,” Trump said before ending the interview.
As Trump moved to leave, Welker reminded him of the effort involved in arranging the discussion.
“I traveled all the way to Wisconsin for this interview,” she said.
Trump has consistently maintained that election irregularities affected the 2020 presidential race and has frequently cited affidavits, statistical anomalies, voting procedures, and delayed vote counts as grounds for concern.
However, election officials, courts, and independent reviews have repeatedly stated that there is no evidence of widespread voter fraud significant enough to alter the outcome of the 2020 election.
The latest exchange adds to a series of tense confrontations between Trump and members of the U.S. media as the political atmosphere ahead of future elections continues to intensify.
