Tinubu Meets NLC to Avert Nationwide Protest

President Bola Tinubu met labour leaders late on Tuesday in an effort to avert a nationwide protest planned by the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC.

The NLC president, Joe Ajaero, led the delegation to the meeting at the State House in Abuja.

Speaking to reporters afterwards, Mr Ajaero declined to say whether the protest would go ahead as scheduled.

“This is not an organisation run by one person,” he said. “We will go back, review what the president has told us and move forward from there.”

He said the labour leadership would reconvene early on Wednesday to take a final decision.

“We came for consultation with the president and we are done for today,” Mr Ajaero added. “By tomorrow, we will have an outcome.”

The NLC is expected to announce on Wednesday whether the planned protest will proceed.

Those at the meeting included the chairman of the All Progressives Congress governors’ forum, Hope Uzodimma, as well as Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo, Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris and the Minister of State for Labour, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha.
