Nigeria’s Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, has explained why the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term ahead of the 2027 general elections, citing his economic reforms, infrastructure investments, and leadership direction.
Oyetola, who also leads the APC in Osun State, said the endorsement was based on what he described as Tinubu’s performance, courage, and clear vision for Nigeria’s future. He made the remarks in a statement issued on Sunday by his Special Adviser, Bolaji Akinola.
The minister had led party members and supporters to formally endorse Tinubu during a reception held on February 14 at Freedom Park in Osogbo. The event also featured the defection of five federal lawmakers from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC, strengthening the party’s position in the state.
Oyetola said Tinubu took difficult but necessary decisions early in his administration to stabilise Nigeria’s economy and prevent further deterioration. According to him, the President introduced fiscal and monetary reforms aimed at improving revenue generation, restoring investor confidence, and increasing transparency in public finance.
He noted that these measures were already producing results, with improved government earnings and renewed foreign investment interest.

Oyetola also praised Tinubu’s social intervention programmes, including student loan initiatives and support schemes for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), which he said were designed to cushion the impact of economic reforms on citizens.
“These efforts show that the administration is not only reform-driven but also committed to supporting Nigerians through the transition,” he said.
The minister further highlighted Tinubu’s emphasis on infrastructure development, pointing to ongoing investments in roads, rail networks, ports, and energy projects nationwide. He said these projects were critical to boosting economic productivity, improving connectivity, and creating employment opportunities.

Oyetola added that the administration had also prioritised security by strengthening coordination among security agencies and providing additional support to law enforcement to improve national stability.
He described Tinubu as an experienced leader with a proven track record, referencing his tenure as governor of Lagos State and his longstanding involvement in Nigeria’s political development.
Oyetola emphasised that continuity in leadership was essential for Nigeria to fully benefit from ongoing reforms and infrastructure projects. He said granting Tinubu a second term would allow his administration to consolidate economic recovery efforts and complete key national development initiatives.
“President Tinubu has demonstrated courage, capacity, and commitment to reposition Nigeria. What he needs now is time to complete the good job he has started,” Oyetola said.

He also expressed confidence that the APC’s governorship candidate in Osun State, Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, would emerge victorious in the state’s governorship election scheduled for August 15, 2026.
The endorsement signals early political positioning within the ruling party as preparations gradually begin for the next presidential election cycle.
