Political tensions in Osun State have escalated as the All Progressives Congress (APC) has called for President Bola Tinubu to impose a state of emergency in the state. The opposition party claims that the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke, who is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has failed to uphold law and order, justifying their demand for federal intervention.

APC’s spokesperson in the state, Kola Olabisi, alleged that the PDP-led government has engaged in unconstitutional activities, including financial mismanagement and failure to address security concerns. He argued that an emergency rule was necessary to prevent further deterioration of governance and ensure stability in the state.

However, Governor Adeleke and the PDP have strongly condemned the call for emergency rule, describing it as an attempt by the APC to undermine democracy and forcefully take over the state government. Adeleke, along with PDP supporters, staged a protest in Osogbo, the state capital, insisting that his administration was duly elected by the people and would not be intimidated by opposition tactics.

PDP members have accused the APC of orchestrating chaos in the state to justify their demand, warning that such a move would set a dangerous precedent in Nigeria’s democratic process. Political analysts believe that the battle for control of Osun State remains intense, and any federal intervention would have far-reaching consequences for both parties. Meanwhile, residents have called for political leaders to prioritize governance over partisan disputes, urging both parties to work towards peace and development in the state.
