
The Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) has inducted 157 graduates of medicine and dentistry from Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), officially admitting them into the medical profession.
The oath-taking ceremony was held on Monday at Oduduwa Hall in Ile-Ife, with the Registrar of the MDCN, Fatima Kyari, represented by Tijani Mandaka, Head of Medical Registration at the council.
Addressing the new doctors and dentists, Kyari warned them against violating the ethics of the profession and urged them to uphold integrity, professionalism and caution in the discharge of their duties.
The Provost of the College of Health Sciences, Bernice Adegbehingbe, congratulated the graduates for their academic achievements and reminded them that medicine and dentistry are sacred callings devoted to serving humanity.
She said the institution remains committed to merit, fairness and integrity in both admission and training, while urging the inductees to practice with compassion, diligence and professionalism.

Adegbehingbe also appealed to parents, alumni and well-wishers to support the college’s proposed Computer-Based Test Learning and Resource Centre, estimated to cost ₦350 million.
The Chief Medical Director of Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex (OAUTHC), John Okeniyi, urged the graduates to prioritise compassion and humanity in their practice.
He described the induction as a significant transition from students to professionals and encouraged them to embrace resilience, innovation and teamwork in tackling emerging health challenges.

The Vice-Chancellor of OAU, Adebayo Bamire, advised the graduates to approach the future of healthcare with courage, humility and a strong commitment to selfless service.
Among the award recipients, Boluwatife Akindele emerged as the best graduating medical student, while Fiyinfoluwa Akande was recognised as the best graduating dental student.
