The Nigerian Army’s 82 Division has promised comprehensive protection for traders in Onitsha Main Market and other key commercial areas across the region. The assurance comes as part of ongoing security operations against criminal elements masquerading as freedom fighters.
According to the army, security personnel remain fully deployed, and intelligence-driven operations are underway to root out members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the Eastern Security Network (ESN) from known hideouts.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the army commended the resilience of traders who have reopened their businesses despite years of intimidation. “This courageous decision represents a collective stand for peace, security, and economic growth in Anambra State and the South-East region,” the statement said.
The army emphasized that criminal activities designed to instil fear, destabilize communities, and undermine commerce have largely been neutralized. By resuming business, traders have demonstrated a commitment to peace and progress in the region.

Residents were further encouraged to go about their lawful activities without fear, avoid intimidation, and continue to support economic development. The army also warned that unrepentant criminals would face the full force of the law, and no hiding place would protect them from justice.

Finally, the 82 Division assured the public that it would continue working closely with civil authorities, traditional leaders, and other security agencies to maintain lasting peace and security throughout Anambra State.
