The Kebbi State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has pulled out of Saturday’s national convention in Ibadan, saying it cannot participate in a process that includes Kabiru Tanimu Turaki as a candidate for national chairman.

The chapter’s spokesman, Sani Dododo, said the group is distancing itself from the gathering because Turaki, in its view, is not a legitimate member of the party following his suspension two years ago.

Chapter Cites 2023 Suspension, Anti-Party Allegations

Kebbi PDP argued that Turaki’s suspension in April 2023, issued by his Nasarawa 1 Ward, remains valid. The action, taken over alleged gross misconduct, anti-party activities, and failure to pay party dues, also affected seven others, including former governorship candidate Gen. Bello S. Yaki.

The chapter insisted that these unresolved disciplinary issues disqualify Turaki from seeking the top party position. In a petition dated October 25, 2025, it alerted the screening committee for the convention that it rejects his nomination, attaching signatures and phone numbers of state working and non-working committee members to back its stance.

Party leaders in Kebbi, including Chairman Alhaji Usman Bello Suru and Secretary Abubakar Bawa Kalgo, maintained that they cannot recognize or support Turaki’s candidacy under any circumstances.

Amid the dispute, the chapter warned that anyone presenting themselves as a delegate from Kebbi at the convention would be doing so without authorization. All accredited delegates from the state, it added, have been instructed to remain at home in protest.

Despite the boycott, preparations for the convention in Ibadan are continuing, with other stakeholders expected to attend as the PDP moves ahead with its leadership selection process.
