Bola Tinubu and other senior Nigerian political figures have been drawn into controversy after official documents reportedly showed that APC aspirant Sadisu Mahmud Buba is 15 years old, making him constitutionally ineligible to contest for a seat in the House of Representatives.
According to a report by Peoples Gazette, birth records, National Identification Number (NIN) data and immigration documents indicate that Mahmud was born on August 27, 2010, in Sokoto State.
Mahmud had attracted national attention after purchasing nomination and expression of interest forms of the All Progressives Congress to contest for the Sabon Gari Federal Constituency seat in Kaduna State in the 2027 general election.
His youthful appearance and diminutive stature sparked widespread debate after he appeared before the party’s screening committee in Abuja earlier this month.

In interviews, including one with the BBC, Mahmud claimed he was 30 years old, born on August 2, 1995, and eligible to run for office under Nigeria’s constitution. He also stated that he was married and previously worked as a driver before entering politics.
His emergence earned public commendations from Godswill Akpabio, Kashim Shettima and Shehu Sani. He has also been photographed with President Tinubu, Uba Sani, Nasir El-Rufai, Bello El-Rufai and Seyi Tinubu.
The Peoples Gazette said its investigation found that Mahmud submitted a false age declaration to the APC screening committee. Data obtained from the National Identity Management Commission and the Nigeria Immigration Service reportedly confirmed the 2010 birth date.
Under Section 65 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), candidates for the House of Representatives must be at least 25 years old. If the records are accurate, Mahmud would be legally barred from contesting in the 2027 election.
