Bandits Abduct 25 Schoolgirls, Kill Vice Principal In Night Attack On Kebbi School

At least 25 students of Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School (GGCSS), Maga, in the Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, have been abducted after armed bandits invaded the school on Sunday night, killing the Vice Principal in the process.

The assailants reportedly stormed the school around nightfall, moving through the compound without resistance and causing widespread panic among students and staff. Witnesses said the gunmen headed straight for the girls’ hostel before taking multiple students away.

During the attack, the school’s Vice Principal, Malam Hassan Makuku, was shot dead. Community members said he was attempting to shield the students when the bandits opened fire.

Police Confirm Abduction, Deputy Governor Heads to School

The Kebbi State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, confirmed on Monday that 25 students were taken.

The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ahmed Idris, also said the Deputy Governor, Senator Umar Tafida, had been dispatched to the school to assess the situation on behalf of Governor Nasir Idris, who is currently out of the state.

“The deputy governor is on his way to know the exact situation. The governor is not in the state for now, but his deputy will go on his behalf until he returns at any moment from now,” Idris said.

Residents of Maga and surrounding communities have been thrown into deep anxiety as authorities begin efforts to trace the abductors and rescue the students. Prayers have continued for the repose of the Vice Principal, with community members describing him as courageous and dedicated.
