Arsenal F.C. moved a step closer to winning the Premier League after a dramatic 1-0 victory over West Ham United F.C. at the London Stadium on Sunday.
The win, secured by a late goal from Leandro Trossard, puts Mikel Arteta’s side five points clear of defending champions Manchester City F.C. as the title race enters its final stretch.
Trossard broke the deadlock in the 83rd minute when he finished from close range after a clever move involving Martin Ødegaard and Declan Rice. His shot took a deflection on its way past West Ham goalkeeper Mads Hermansen.
West Ham appeared to have snatched a dramatic equaliser in stoppage time when Callum Wilson fired home after Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya spilt a cross. However, referee Chris Kavanagh, after a lengthy VAR review, disallowed the goal for a foul by Pablo on Raya, a decision that sparked angry protests from home supporters.

The result leaves Arsenal firmly in control of the title race. Manchester City can reduce the gap to two points if they beat Crystal Palace F.C. in their game in hand, but Arsenal will be guaranteed the championship if they win their final two matches against Burnley F.C. and Crystal Palace.
If Arsenal lift the trophy, it would mark the club’s first league title in 22 years and their 14th top-flight crown.
Arteta’s side is also chasing European glory after reaching the UEFA Champions League Final, where they will face Paris Saint-Germain F.C. in Budapest on May 30.
A domestic and European double would rank as one of the greatest seasons in Arsenal’s history and cement this squad’s place alongside the club’s legendary “Invincibles” team of 2003–04.
