Anthropic has overtaken OpenAI to become the world’s most valuable artificial intelligence startup after raising $65 billion in a massive Series H funding round that pushed its valuation to $965 billion.

The funding round ranks among the largest private technology raises ever recorded and attracted major investors including Altimeter Capital, Dragoneer, Greenoaks, Sequoia Capital, and Amazon, which remains one of the company’s biggest strategic backers.

The new valuation places Anthropic ahead of OpenAI, which was last valued at about $852 billion earlier this year, highlighting the growing competition among leading AI companies as investor appetite for generative AI intensifies.

Anthropic’s rapid growth has been driven largely by strong enterprise adoption of its Claude AI models, particularly its coding assistant products and workplace AI tools. The company’s annualised revenue reportedly climbed sharply this year as businesses increasingly integrate generative AI into software development, research, and enterprise operations.

Founded in 2021 by former OpenAI executives Dario Amodei and Daniela Amodei, Anthropic has positioned itself as an AI company focused heavily on safety, governance, and enterprise reliability.

The startup has also expanded aggressively across global AI infrastructure partnerships as competition for computing power intensifies. In recent months, the startup secured major compute and cloud agreements involving companies such as Amazon, Google, Broadcom, SpaceX, CoreWeave, Samsung, Micron, and SK Hynix.
