Sharafadeen Ali, the senator representing Oyo South, has officially declared his intention to contest the governorship of Oyo State in the 2027 general elections under the platform of the All Progressives Congress.
Speaking at his declaration, Ali said his administration would prioritise full implementation of local government autonomy to strengthen grassroots development and bring governance closer to the people.
He framed his political journey as one driven by service rather than ambition, stressing that his goal has always been to create impact, especially at the community level.
According to him, Oyo deserves leadership that is measured not just by economic success or political rhetoric, but by policies that directly improve the lives of citizens.
Ali pointed to his experience across different levels of government as proof of his readiness for the role. He recalled his time as a local government chairman, where he said governance was made more visible and responsive, as well as his service as secretary to the state government and chief of staff under former governor Rashidi Ladoja.

He added that his current role in the Senate has allowed him to continue advocating for policies and interventions that benefit his constituents and the broader economy.
Beyond governance structure, the senator raised concerns about the state of education in Oyo, describing it as below expectations based on recent assessments. He said his administration would focus on building an education system that promotes innovation and provides conducive learning environments.
Ali also outlined plans to prioritise youth development, agriculture, security, stable power supply, and improved healthcare services if elected.
