Nigeria’s Super Falcons secured a dramatic 1-0 victory over Botswana in their Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) 2024 match on July 11, 2025, at Stade Said Mohamed Cheik, thanks to a late goal by Desire Oparanozie in the 88th minute.

The win, watched by 12,000 fans, propelled the two-time champions to six points in Group C, ensuring their quarter-final berth with one match remaining. Botswana, making their tournament debut, fought resiliently but couldn’t convert their chances.

Oparanozie, introduced as a substitute, capitalized on a defensive error to score her third goal of the tournament, outpacing goalkeeper Sedilame Bosija. Coach Randy Waldrum praised the team’s persistence, despite resting star Asisat Oshoala, while Botswana’s coach Gaolebale Gabatshwane lamented missed opportunities.
