Sanwo-Olu Hosts Banquet for IGP Disu in Lagos

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Saturday night hosted a state banquet in honour of Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Rilwan Disu, describing him as a proud product of Lagos whose rise reflects the values of the state.

The event, held at the State House in Marina, drew a mix of government officials, security chiefs, and community leaders, turning into both a celebration of career achievement and a moment of reflection on public service.

Sanwo-Olu, in remarks shared after the event, framed Disu’s journey as one deeply rooted in Lagos. According to him, the city played a defining role in shaping the police chief long before he attained national prominence.

He pointed to Disu’s upbringing on Lagos Island and his educational background, including his time at Lagos State University, as key influences that helped mould his discipline and outlook on service.

The governor also revisited Disu’s earlier years in the state’s security architecture, particularly his leadership of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), a unit widely known for its role in tackling crime and improving emergency response across Lagos.

Celebrating service and local roots

Beyond the ceremony, the evening carried a broader message about leadership and identity. Sanwo-Olu emphasised that Disu’s career trajectory demonstrates how local foundations can translate into national impact, noting that the values instilled in Lagos continue to shape his work at the highest level of policing.

Disu was appointed Inspector-General of Police earlier this year by Bola Ahmed Tinubu, following a leadership transition within the force. His appointment marked a significant step in a career that has spanned multiple commands and operational roles.
