PSG Demands Reform After Stars’ Injuries on International Duty

Paris Saint-Germain has sounded the alarm over injuries to Ousmane Dembele and Desire Doue during France’s World Cup qualifier, calling for urgent changes in player welfare protocols. The club’s outcry, reported by AFP, highlights the growing tension between club and international commitments.

Dembele, sidelined for six weeks with a hamstring injury, and Doue, out for four weeks with a calf issue, were hurt during France’s win over Ukraine. PSG, the European champions, sent a stern letter to the French Football Federation (FFF), criticizing the lack of coordination between club and national team medical staff.

The club had warned the FFF about the players’ workload risks before the international break, yet their recommendations were ignored. PSG’s call for a transparent, collaborative protocol aims to prevent such “avoidable” injuries, especially for players already under medical care.

The controversy has divided opinions, with some backing PSG’s push for reform, others defending national team priorities. For Nigeria, where football passion runs deep, the issue resonates as clubs like Enyimba face similar challenges with Super Eagles call-ups. The dispute tests the balance between club and country obligations. As PSG prepares for their Champions League defense without two stars, their demand for change could reshape global football’s medical frameworks, influencing Nigeria’s sports ecosystem.
