The national leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has cautioned party members against abandoning the party, warning that political disloyalty rarely ends in lasting success.

Kwankwaso, a former governor of Kano State and the NNPP’s presidential flagbearer in the 2023 elections, made the remarks while addressing supporters at his residence, amid growing speculation that some party figures are considering a move to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

His comments follow reports suggesting that Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, may be weighing a possible exit from the Kwankwasiyya political bloc, a development that has stirred intense political debate within the state.

Reacting to the reports, Kwankwaso said he was unfazed by the alleged plans, arguing that history has consistently shown that politicians who abandon popular movements for personal gain often lose relevance.

“Those who believe they can rise by turning their backs on the people should study political history carefully,” he said, noting that betrayal has never been a reliable path to long-term political success.

The NNPP leader maintained that the strength of the party does not rest on elected officials alone but on grassroots support, adding that defections would not diminish the movement’s influence.

He pointed to the turnout of supporters at the gathering as evidence that the NNPP and the Kwankwasiyya Movement remain firmly rooted among the people of Kano State.

According to him, the continued presence and enthusiasm of supporters reflect public confidence in the party’s ideals, despite ongoing political realignments.

Kwankwaso further stressed that the NNPP would remain committed to its founding principles and continue positioning itself as a platform for progressive politics, regardless of internal challenges.

As of the time of filing this report, the Kano State Government and Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf had not issued any official statement responding to the defection rumours.
