NDLEA Officer Killed During Rivers Drug Raid

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) reported the death of Chief Narcotic Agent Sadiq Bako Mujahid during a raid on Friday, February 6, 2026. The operation targeted a major drug hub in Ama Hausa, Bonny Island, Rivers State.

According to the agency, armed hoodlums mobilized by gang leader Genesis George Benson resisted arrest, inflicting severe head injuries on Mujahid. He was rushed to Bonny Island General Hospital but later succumbed to his injuries. Despite the attack, operatives successfully apprehended all six suspects. Other arrests included ThankGod Okon, Shamsudden Isah, Muhammed Musa, Adamu Muhammed, and Muhammed Yusuf.

The raid yielded a significant haul of illicit drugs, including cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, skunk, and tramadol. The operation underscored the agency’s continued focus on dismantling organized drug networks in Nigeria.

NDLEA Praises Bravery, Warns Criminals

NDLEA Chairman and CEO, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.), lauded the courage of the operatives involved. He said: “I salute the gallantry of our men who refused to be intimidated by these criminal elements. Even after the cowardly attack on Mujahid, our operatives ensured that the assailants were overpowered and arrested, and their illicit substances confiscated.”

Marwa also mourned the loss of Mujahid, calling him a “disciplined and courageous officer who paid the ultimate price in the service of his fatherland.” He extended condolences to the officer’s family, colleagues, and the Rivers State Command.

The NDLEA chief issued a stern warning to criminal elements, stating that “any attack on our officers is an attack on the state, and it will not go without dire consequences.” He emphasized the agency’s commitment to continue operations against drug traffickers, reinforcing Nigeria’s stance against the illicit drug trade.
