Manchester City secured their place in the 2024/25 FA Cup final with a 2-0 victory over Nottingham Forest in the semi-final at Wembley Stadium on April 27, 2025, setting up a highly anticipated rematch against Manchester United on May 17, 2025.

The match, attended by 81,000 fans, showcased City’s clinical edge despite a challenging season, marking their third consecutive FA Cup final appearance and keeping alive their pursuit of a seventh title in the competition.

City took the lead early in the second minute when Rico Lewis scored his first senior goal, slotting home a precise pass from Mateo Kovačić after a swift counter-attack. Nottingham Forest, in their first FA Cup semi-final since 1991, showed resilience, with Morgan Gibbs-White forcing a fingertip save from Ederson in the 23rd minute.

However, City doubled their lead in the 51st minute through Joško Gvardiol, who headed in a corner from Omar Marmoush, the Egyptian winger bought from Eintracht Frankfurt. Forest’s late efforts, including a blocked shot from Chris Wood, were thwarted by City’s resolute defense, ensuring a clean sheet.

Pep Guardiola, addressing the media post-match, praised the team’s professionalism amid a congested fixture list, singling out Lewis for his composure at just 20 years old. Forest manager Nuno Espírito Santo expressed disappointment but highlighted his team’s growth, noting their mid-table Premier League position as a foundation for future success.
