Lagos State University has commenced its indigeneship verification exercise for candidates seeking admission into the 2026/2027 academic session, targeting applicants of Lagos State origin.
In an official notice, the university said the screening process opened on April 27 and will run until May 22, forming a key requirement for indigenes before they can be considered for admission.
The exercise applies strictly to candidates who selected LASU as their first choice in the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and scored at least 195.
According to the university, applicants are expected to complete both online and physical verification, submitting a range of documents including UTME results, birth certificates, local government identification, and proof of family origin within Lagos State. Traditional and community подтверждения, such as letters from local authorities and monarchs, are also required as part of the screening.
The verification will be conducted in phases across multiple divisions, with designated centres in Ikeja, Badagry, Ikorodu, Lagos Island, and Epe.

LASU emphasised that the exercise is strictly for confirming indigeneship status and does not guarantee admission. Only candidates cleared by the Independent Indigeneship Verification Committee will proceed to the next stage of the admission process.
The institution also warned applicants to make payments only through its official portal, cautioning against fraudulent channels.
Additionally, candidates from previous admission cycles who were not admitted have been advised to revalidate their indigeneship status online, while direct entry applicants of Lagos origin are also required to undergo the verification.
The exercise remains a critical step in LASU’s admission process, reflecting the university’s long-standing policy of prioritising candidates with verified state origin.
