Frank Lampard has guided Coventry City back to the Premier League for the first time in 25 years, sealing promotion with a dramatic 1-1 draw against Blackburn Rovers on Friday.
Heading into the clash at Ewood Park, Coventry needed just a point to confirm their return to England’s top flight, but Blackburn made them work for it.
After a quiet first half, Ryoya Morishita fired the hosts ahead early in the second half, momentarily silencing the travelling Coventry supporters and threatening to delay their celebrations.
However, Coventry responded with persistence, and their breakthrough finally came late on when Bobby Thomas struck an equaliser just six minutes from time, sparking wild celebrations among the away fans and confirming promotion.

The achievement marks a stunning revival for Coventry, who last played in the Premier League during the 2000/01 season. Their return is even more impressive considering the position Lampard inherited when he took over, with the team sitting just above the relegation zone.
Under his leadership, the Sky Blues surged up the table to secure automatic promotion, without the financial cushion of parachute payments typically enjoyed by recently relegated clubs.
Reacting after the match, Lampard praised his players’ resilience and belief.
“To get automatic promotion as a non-parachute team with games to spare… these boys have achieved something special,” he said.

He added that bouncing back from last season’s play-off disappointment made the moment even more meaningful, describing the promotion as a reward for consistency and determination across the campaign.
For Coventry, it’s more than just a return, it’s the end of a 25-year absence and the beginning of a new chapter back among England’s elite.
